William Amor, upcycling artist, Marqueterie de mégots for the operation Paris Mon Amour, Galeries Lafayette, Paris, August 2021. Collected at the Villa du Lavoir located in Paris 10, the filters of hundreds of used and abandoned cigarette butts have been cleaned and sanitized.

The cellulose acetate from this small, highly polluting waste product was then dyed in green cameos in a hot pigment bath. Once dried, the fiber is reshaped and cut into small sections.

William Amor then worked, these butts became ornaments with a velvet touch, in the manner of straw marquetry or featherwork. The artist placed each element one by one with precision pliers and pressure points on the fiber to obtain a mosaic like a landscape seen from the sky. Carnations made of pleated plastic bags decorate this garden; a metaphor for the cobbled streets of Paris.

William Amor imagined a “floral reverie” for the House of Guerlain to sublimate the first exceptional “upcycling” MON GUERLAIN ‘Bloom of Rose’, Prestige edition, around the precious Baccarat crystal bottle. The artist has composed a custom-made upcycling ornament, a composition of flowers and leaves on a branch that adorns the quadrilobal crystal bottle.

William Amor was inspired by the composition of the fragrance to create the ancient rose damascena and a variety of rosehip. Imaginary flowers, peduncles and rosebuds were added. The color of the fragrance finds a sublimated echo in the work of William Amor and its pink and red monochrome. Eco-designed with non-reclaimed materials, the flowers are created from recycled plastic bags.

May 2019. Initiated by Ateliers d’Art de France since 2013, Révélations is the international fine craft and creation appointment not to be missed. For its 4th edition, Révélations, takes place at the Grand Palais in Paris from 23rd to 26th May 2019. On Saturday 25th May, the Auction House Drouot Estimations, Côme Remy, 20th Century arts & crafts expert, and Charlotte du Vivier-Lebrun, consultant for contemporary ceramic, will present the “Material & Manner” auction, dedicated to contemporary decorative arts.
